A beautiful 18th century freestone mansion, Château Montlabert is surrounded by a park decorated with century-old trees. This Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is located on the road to Libourne, in the immediate vicinity of the Figeac plateau and the place called “Grâce Dieu”. The Castel family acquired this estate in 2008. Terroir: The Château Montlabert vineyard extends over 13 hectares, in one piece, on ancient, deep, sandy-gravelly sands, with clay subsoils. The vineyard is made up of 6,200 vines per hectare. The vines are on average 25 years old, 80% of them producing Merlot, the remaining 20% producing Cabernet Franc. Viticulture: The work in the vineyard has been carried out for several years with respect for the environment, managing the vines according to sustainable agriculture practices in order to have high quality grapes to vinify. The harvest is carried out plot by plot. Vinification: 20% of the Merlot and 10% of the Cabernet Sauvignon harvested go through the bleeding stage. This step is a very short maceration of the juices with the skins of the grapes, in order to obtain a beautiful color. Fermentation and maceration are carried out with temperature control in concrete or stainless steel tanks. Concerning the aging, this continues for approximately 14 months in French oak barrels, half of which are new, the other half having already housed a wine.
